McQueen is now running to become the NM State Land Commissioner, and is actively supporting Sarah Boses to succeed him. Sarah ain't shy. When the Sierra Club endorsed her, she responded with a post that makes the case — she'll join other superb members of the NM House, and will be contributing content and analysis from day one. She also showed up at the Children's Roadmap Roadshow hosted by NM Voices for Children, one of the best anti-poverty advocacy organizations in our state, and outlines her conclusions there. The Race
HD-50 spans Sandoval and Santa Fe Counties. This is an open seat with an established Democratic lean: McQueen's 2024 margin was over 23 points. Kenneth Brennan, a former two-term Mayor of Edgewood, is running against Sarah in a rematch of the 2024 contest.
Sarah ran unopposed in the June 2 primary and advanced to the general election against Brennan. (D: Boses 100%, 5,727 — R: Brennan 100%, 1,710) On campaign finance, Sarah raised $28,807 from 210 donors; Brennan raised $5,636 from 19 donors — a 5× fundraising advantage with a far broader donor base.
Sarah and Brennan debated one another, as covered by The Santa Fe New Mexican. The candidates overlap on rural issues, but they differ on abortion and Trump — as much as the party affiliations of their two Santa Fe County communities do.
The Opponent
Republican Kenneth Brennan, former two-term Mayor of Edgewood, NM, is seeking a second bid for this seat. Compare his campaign website. A citizen of Edgewood pleads with us not to "send him to the Roundhouse." Sheesh….
